Easter was a cause for joy in so many ways. Yes, we are meant to be a people of hope, especially in these uncertain times, and everything about our Easter Services this year had poignancy, depth and joy. Holy Thursday never fails to touch. Good Friday drew a very large congregation. The Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday at St. Leonard’s was special. It was especially uplifting to see the number of young families again. Special thanks to Mr. Hammill and St. Leonard’s staff for being so welcoming. Well done to our parish team for organising, and to our excellent musicians. “The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone. The things you do for others remain as your legacy.” Kalu Ndukwe Kalu

As we enter Holy Week can I ask that you join us as we gather, especially at St. Leonard’s, as one parish. We have very few opportunities to do this, and particularly so over recent years. It will be a time for us to gather as a single community to remember those who are no longer with us. Our parish team and school have worked hard to enable us to gather. Thanks to all. First Confessions took place this week. Thanks to our schools and catechists. It would enrich the children’s preparation and appreciation for First only Communion if they can be a part of the Sunday gathering for Mass, especially leading up to their big day. A warm welcome to Brother John to our parish. Br. John joins Br. Paul at Tenter House as the second member of their growing community of Capuchins. As this bulletin is for Easter, can I wish you all a very Happy Easter.

St. Joseph’s hosted a day of prayer for priests in our episcopal area. Over a dozen priests gathered for Exposition, Rosary, Gospel reflection, Reconciliation and a shared lunch. The changing face of priesthood in the diocese was evidenced in the multi-national backgrounds of many present. Also obvious was the number of priests who are members of religious orders. This gave a rich variety to the sharing and hopes for the future. The process of Synodality is concluding soon and the feedback indicates a very positive and constructive response. Thank you to all of you in the parish for your contributions to this process. A number of sacramental programmes are gearing up to return. They have been greatly missed and its good that so many of the catechists are also back, and in good health. Keep those precautions going regarding Covid. This variant packs a punch.
