Feedback can be important, positive usually the most welcome. So in that vein, the feedback on increased choir members at St. Godric’s on Sunday has been very good. The same with welcoming the visitors. Nice meeting up again with the familiar faces, but the smile, or hello, to the stranger, is worth more than many a cuppa with my pals.

The Requiem Mass for Bede Murray is next Wednesday. We anticipate a very full St. Godric's. There will probably be a large number of people from far and wide, as well as the many local parishioners and friends of Paul, Andrea and Anna. I mention this by way of asking that we keep an eye to the visitors, and ensure that they are comfortably seated in the Church. Many thanks.
Unfortunately, the Harry Troughear funeral is the same morning as Bede's. Fr. Mark Carroll is kindly doing that. Harry was such a well known outfitter in Durham. Many a man has been well dressed for the big occasion, which required formal dress, by Harry. Durham has lost one of its well known figures. Our sympathies to Mabel and family.

What is important is that we - as a parish - continue the great work that has been built up over the years. The need for lay involvement will continue to increase with time. The role of the priest will also continue to be central to that life of the parish. Church attendances will continue to decrease for the foreseeable future. I'm sure many of us don't have to go beyond our own families to see this reality.
Some people will choose Mass times that suit their timetable. Other factors will also continue to dictate where we choose to worship. Closures will be inevitable. It is important that we are fully aware of these facts. Let's be positive - and adjust accordingly.
