Parish News and Announcements

We are beginning to prepare those who would like to receive this sacrament and take this next important step in their journey of faith. We will be taking steps to encourage our young people wishing to receive the sacrament to fully 'embed' themselves in the parish, answering their call to be active disciples of Jesus Christ.

In the coming months, it is expected that the young people will actively engage in the life of their parish. This is to allow our young people to put their faith into action in concrete ways, such as assisting with children's liturgy, reading, serving refreshments, taking the collection, and other meaningful activities. I hope to recruit 'Parish Buddies' – people within each of our Parish Churches who will check in with the young people and support them on this journey. This mentorship is a vital component of the preparation, providing guidance and encouragement as they move towards receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. If there are any willing volunteers to support with being a 'Parish Buddy' please do make yourself known via the list at the back of Church.

At a recent meeting of Diocesan Clergy, Bishop Stephen asked that at all parish meetings, functions and events the issue of safeguarding be addressed as a high priority. Safeguarding needs to be considered in its widest context to include health, safety and well-being. It is the responsibility of us all to ensure that our parishes and institutions are safe places for all comers and that the risk of avoidable harm is reduced as much as possible. We need to create safe spaces of true welcome in which relationships can develop which are enriching and respectful. Where agendas or dynamic risk assessments for events are produced, ‘safeguarding’ needs to feature prominently. Further advice and information can be provided by Dennis Bradley or Kathleen Murray, and the Diocesan Safeguarding Team are always happy to give guidance.
