Our next walk will take place on Saturday 20th August and will be a pleasant figure of eight walk of approximately 4 miles through Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve. The Dene is a magical place full of legend and folklore and is home to an extraordinary variety of birds, more than 450 species of plants and a range of mammals including roe deer and fox. There will be an opportunity for food / refreshments afterwards. Parking is available at the Reserve Car Park, Oakerside Dene Lodge, Stanhope Chase, Peterlee SR8 1JN where the walk will commence. It is suggested that we meet at St. Joseph’s car park at 10am and arrange to share transport.

The parish walking group enjoyed a lovely walk this morning starting at Hawthorn Village. If you would be interested in joining the group for future walks new members are always welcome. Just contact Marjorie, Parish Secretary.
Our next walk will take place on Saturday 16thJuly, led by Gillian Macarthur and will be a pleasant walk of approximately 4 ½ miles from Hawthorn Village, through the dene and along the coastal path. The walk starts and ends at the Stapylton Arms village pub so there will be an opportunity for food / refreshments afterwards.It is suggested that as parking in the village is limited, we meet at St.Joseph’s car park at 10am and arrange to share transport.
