Parish News and Announcements

Congratulations to St Leonard's pupils Benram (Key Stage 4) and Rafael (Key Stage 3) who won awards for  the public speaking competition organised by The Catenian Association held on 3rd March.

Parishioner John Thompson spoke at Mass this morning about the competion and Fr. Colm presented the boys with their cups which will be displayed in St Leonard's school.

A big thank you to members of our parish team for running the Sanctuary 21 café and to all those who attended the coffee and crafts fundraising event on 23rd March. It was a very enjoyable and successful event and the funds raised will make a big difference in supporting those who are homeless or experiencing mental ill-health, and sometimes both at the same time. We hope to make this a regular event but need more volunteers to enable this to happen. If you feel you can spare an hour or two to support our parish homelessness support team in the Sanctuary 21 café on a Saturday once every couple of months, then please contact me through the parish office. Thank you. Peter Thompson.

Our next walk will be the popular ‘Bluebell Walk’ through Houghall Woods on Saturday 20th April. The varied walk will take us through attractive woodland (hopefully filled with bluebells!), open areas and riverbank. The route is a distance of 3.1 miles, all well walked, but some of the paths in the woods are uneven with a number of steps. The walk starts at 10.15 am at the end of Houghall Lane (small parking area or parking available amongst trees at The Pump House). For those who would like a longer walk meet at St Joseph’s car park at 9.30am and we will walk down to Houghall via Old Durham and Maiden Castle. (this would add approximately another 3 miles to the walk). It would be very helpful if you could let Marjorie know if you plan to join us so that we know who to expect and where you are joining the walk.
