Homelessness Sunday 6th October

This Sunday is Homelessness Sunday so please keep in your prayers all those who are sleeping rough on our streets. Sanctuary 21 continues to work with other agencies in Durham to help those who are genuinely homeless and very vulnerable. A team of our parishioners assist with this work.

With the colder weather approaching, there is a constant need for sleeping bags. In the past we have had a number of these donated by parishioners for which we are very grateful but if anyone still has an unwanted sleeping bag, please bring it along to one of the churches for our volunteers to collect.

We are also very short of men’s clothing in size medium.

If you have any of the following items in good clean condition that you are able to donate we would be very grateful:-

• Tee shirts

• Boxer shorts

• Hoodies

• Jogging bottoms

• Warm socks

• Rucksacks / Backpacks (the larger the better)

We have good stocks of other items at the moment.

Thank you.

A prayer for Homelessness Sunday

We pray today for all women and men, who are homeless this day.

For those sleeping under bridges, on park benches, in doorways or bus stations or outside high street shops and many other inappropriate places.

For those who can only find shelter for the night but must wander in the daytime.

For families broken because they could not afford the rent.

For those who have no relatives or friends who can take them in.

For those who have no place to keep their possessions that remind them of who they are.

For those who are afraid and hopeless.

For those who have been let down by our social safety net.

For all these people, we pray that you will provide shelter, security andhope.

We pray that those of us with warm house will not be lulled into complacency and forgetfulness.

Jesus, help us to see your face in the eyes of every person experiencing homelessness who we meet.

So that we may be empowered through word anddeed, and in your grace,

to bring justice and peace to those who are homeless.

Amen.
