Sadly, we lost one of the pillars of the Diocese this week with the death of Fr Bill O’Gorman. Fr Bill, as he was affectionately known, had recently celebrated his 91st birthday. A former Vicar General of the Diocese, his counsel was sought by Bishop’s, priests, lay folk young and old. He will be sorely missed by many. Our sympathies go out to his brother Fr John, his family, friends and parishioners at St Michael’s, especially to Margaret and Pat, who so lovingly cared for Fr Bill and allowed Fr Bill the blessing of spending his last days among the people he loved and dedicated most of his priestly life to. I’m off home next week for the wedding of my nephew. It will be tinged with sadness, as he is the youngest of my brother Liam’s children. Again, a big thank you to all for the many Mass Intentions that continue to be offered for the repose of Liam’s soul. May he, and Fr Bill, rest in peace. Indeed, their love of Gaelic Football will be a discussion they will share in Heaven, I’m sure. I will also taking the opportunity to have a break, and please God, when I return, the restrictions that we have all lived with for so long, will have further eased. This time will also afford Marjorie our hard-working parish secretary, an opportunity to have a break. Our thanks to Marjorie for all the hard work in very demanding times. I do hope you all have an chance to take some form of a holiday.
