Thought from Fr. Colm - 29th July

Sadly, we heard the news of the death of Irma Oliver in Wales where she moved recently to be cared for by her family. Irma’s story is too long and fascinating for a parish newsletter, but having met her husband in her native Belgium whilst he was serving in the British Army during World War II, she spent most of her life here in Durham. May she rest in peace. A fun time was had by all who came to our parish open day at St. Joseph’s last Sunday. It was very well attended and the chat and laughter was befitting the post lockdown gathering. Thanks to all. Can I ask those who were pre-pandemic readers and ministers of the Eucharist to re-join the rotas. You are needed. Our parish council meeting last Tuesday was productive and good in that we can plan again. There is much to do and the need to plan succession in the many roles is more relevant. An area of real importance is the greater use of buildings, especially our churches.
